US Console Sales Drop 39% in July as Component Costs Lift Prices

US console hardware sales dropped 39% by unit volume in July compared with the same month a year earlier, according to Circana figures shared by analyst Mat Piscatella on August 20 and reported by Tom's Hardware. Over the same period, the average price paid for a new system climbed 16% to $542.
Dollar sales for console hardware reached $282 million, a 29% decline and the weakest July result since 2020. Piscatella linked the downturn to console price increases driven by the RAM and component shortage, a connection Circana had not previously drawn in its monthly figures, per Tom's Hardware.
