Hashdex, a Brazil-based asset manager, plans to wind down its U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund after the product failed to gather significant investor assets, according to reporting by BitKE.
The firm said it will liquidate the Hashdex Bitcoin ETF, which trades on NYSE Arca under the ticker DEFI. As of the end of July 2026, the fund held roughly $14.7 million in assets and about 225 BTC. Trading is set to conclude on Aug. 17, 2026, after which shareholders are expected to receive cash distributions once the fund sells its Bitcoin holdings later in the month.
According to BitKE, Hashdex pointed to several factors behind the move, including assets under management, trading liquidity, operating costs, investor demand and the fund's position within the company's broader range of products.
