Valve has begun taking reservations for its standalone Steam Frame VR headset, with engineers citing rising component costs behind the pricing.

Valve has opened a waiting list for its standalone virtual reality headset, the Steam Frame, according to GamesIndustry.biz and TechPowerUp.
Pricing starts at $1,059 for the 256 GB model and rises to $1,299 for the 1 TB version, TechPowerUp reported.
In an interview with Tom's Hardware referenced by TechPowerUp, Valve engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais addressed why the device landed at its price point. He pointed to broader industry conditions affecting hardware costs, including memory prices, and said the company was aiming to keep the product as affordable as possible under those circumstances. According to the account, factors such as motherboards, copper, and worldwide shipping have all become more expensive compared with previous years, affecting the final price.
