Blizzard Reveals Diablo 5 and Open-World StarCraft at BlizzCon 2026

Blizzard used its BlizzCon 2026 event to unveil two major additions to its game lineup, both with lengthy release timelines.

The company confirmed Diablo 5, the next mainline entry in its action RPG franchise, targeting a spring 2029 launch, according to TechPowerUp. The announcement was made during the event's opening ceremony and accompanied by a cinematic tied to the series' 30th anniversary.

Game director Joe Shely said the story begins a century after the events of Diablo 4, with the world of Sanctuary already having fallen and Diablo victorious, placing players in the aftermath rather than in a fight to prevent it. TechPowerUp reported that Diablo 5 will be the first mainline title built around a post-apocalyptic Sanctuary from the outset. A follow-up panel confirmed the returning Demon Hunter and Monk classes at launch, along with a new class called the Plague Knight. Blizzard has shared little about gameplay mechanics so far.
