Medikea, a Tanzanian healthtech startup, has secured $1.2 million in pre-seed funding to expand a healthcare network that pairs virtual consultations with physical clinics, diagnostic labs, pharmacies, and specialist care, according to TechCabal.
The round drew backing from Baobab Network, Catalyst Fund, develoPPP Ventures, Madica, Impacc, Hustle Fund, O'Shaughnessy Ventures, Madiro, the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation, and an unnamed angel investor.
The company said it has already deployed part of the capital to grow its clinic footprint, adding two facilities in Arusha and Morogoro to reach a total of four clinics across Tanzania. The remaining funds are earmarked for its next expansion phase, including additional clinics, key hires, technology and product development, operations, sales, marketing, and growth.
