Intel shares fell roughly 29% on Friday to close at $65.76, a decline that CNBC described as the stock's worst day since the 1970s, according to TechPowerUp. Decrypt reported it was the company's steepest daily drop in 50 years. The sell-off followed a fourth-quarter outlook that landed well below market expectations, even though Intel's just-reported quarter outperformed forecasts.
For its third quarter of 2026, Intel posted revenue of $16.5 billion, up 21% year over year, with adjusted earnings per share of $0.52, ahead of the roughly $0.40 analysts had anticipated. Data Center and AI revenue climbed 78% to $7.3 billion, while the Client Computing Group declined 5% to $8.1 billion. The stock had closed at $92.07 the previous day, before the results were published.
