Scalpers Post Steam Frame Reservations on eBay as Community Pushes Back

Reservations for Valve's Steam Frame virtual reality headset began surfacing on eBay within hours of the company sending its first reservation emails, according to a report from TechPowerUp citing IGN.

Listings for the 256 GB kit were priced from around $1,700, compared with Valve's retail price of $1,059, while 1 TB kits appeared at roughly $2,000 against a $1,299 list price. IGN said at least some listings had sold, but the outlet Mixed noted these were asking prices and that no confirmed sale had been verified.

Valve's rules appear to complicate resale. Under the terms of its Limited Drop Program, the purchase link is tied to the qualifying Steam account, and transferring the right to buy is prohibited. The Steam Frame has not yet shipped to buyers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, or Australia, meaning a purchaser would be buying a spot in the queue rather than an actual device. eBay's policy also requires listings to offer a physical, tangible item.
