Sony has unveiled two new wireless headsets for the PlayStation 5, the PlayStation Pulse and the Pulse Edge, according to reporting from Engadget and TechPowerUp. Both models feature planar magnetic drivers.
The company said the refreshed lineup uses custom studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers intended to deliver strong sound separation and spatial accuracy. Sony noted this helps players identify directional audio cues such as footsteps or reloads in competitive first-person shooters.
Compared with the earlier Pulse Elite, the new Pulse and Pulse Edge headsets add larger planar drivers, which Sony said produce fuller and deeper bass while retaining the clarity of the previous model. The Pulse Elite, introduced in 2024, was Sony's first wireless headset to use planar magnetic drivers along with PlayStation Link connectivity.
