Michael Dell, chairman and chief executive of Dell, has said the current shortage of computer memory is set to intensify in 2027, according to comments reported by The Wall Street Journal and covered by TechPowerUp.
Dell attributed the squeeze to the ongoing buildout of AI data centers, which continues to absorb large volumes of DRAM and high-bandwidth memory (HBM). He indicated that Dell's constraint is not customer demand: the company is carrying around $95 billion in undelivered AI server orders, described as the largest backlog in its history. Memory supply, rather than orders, is what is holding back shipments, since AI accelerators require substantial HBM while the surrounding servers still depend on conventional DRAM.
