Cointelegraph, one of the longest-running cryptocurrency news outlets, is reportedly looking for a buyer following a sharp fall in its website traffic, according to a person familiar with the matter cited by BitKE and CoinDesk.
The company has not disclosed any asking price, and CoinDesk reported that the sum it has been shopping itself for was not revealed. Cointelegraph did not immediately respond to requests for comment but later posted on X that it was not for sale.
The decline in traffic has been linked to changes in the site's visibility on Google. According to reports cited by BitKE, Cointelegraph experienced an estimated 80% drop in organic traffic after Google applied a manual penalty in October 2025, which caused the site to vanish from search results. Similarweb data referenced by sources showed the outlet drew more than 12 million monthly visits in December 2024, falling to just above 700,000 by September 1, 2026.
