Apple Unveils iPhone Duo, Its First Foldable, With eSIM-Only Design

Apple introduced its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, at its Surprise and Shine event held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the Steve Jobs Theatre in Cupertino, according to TechCabal. The device was revealed alongside the iPhone 18 Pro line, new Apple Watch models, and updated AirPods.

The keynote was the first product presentation led by John Ternus as Apple's CEO. He took over the role on September 1, eight days before the event, with Tim Cook moving to the position of executive chairman, TechCabal reported.

The iPhone Duo opens like a book and combines a 7.6-inch inner display with a 5.4-inch outer display. Both are Super Retina XDR panels reaching up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness, and Apple says the inner screen is 50% larger than the display on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. A nano-texture finish on the inner panel is designed to reduce glare and conceal the fold line, while the frame uses mirror-polished titanium with a 3D-printed titanium element.
