Ore Energy, an Amsterdam-based startup working on grid-scale iron-air batteries for long-duration energy storage, has closed a €37.3 million ($43 million) Series A round, according to EU-Startups and Ventureburn. The financing was led by Plural and HV, with Positron Ventures also taking part, and lifts the company's total funding to €53.02 million ($61 million).
Founded in 2023 by Aytac Yilmaz (CEO), Rutil Özdemir (COO) and Yaiza Gonzalez Garcia (CSO), Ore Energy develops batteries that store and release energy by rusting and unrusting iron electrodes, a process that has led the technology to be described as a breathing battery. The cells are built from iron, water and air, and the company says they can be produced through a fully European supply chain without imported critical raw materials such as lithium or cobalt.
