Bose Corporation is acquiring Skullcandy, a lifestyle audio brand, according to a joint press release from the two companies cited by GSMArena.
Under the deal, Skullcandy will continue to exist as a distinct brand inside Bose's Premium Consumer Audio lineup and will keep its base in Park City, Utah. The companies said they plan to pair Bose's audio engineering with Skullcandy's design approach and its connections to its customer community in developing future products.
Engadget reported that Bose views the acquisition as a route to reaching a broader audience.
In comments included in the joint announcement, Bose highlighted its status as a privately held company, saying this gives it the freedom to make long-term investments, and described Skullcandy as an established and thriving brand.
